This information contains important details of how students enrol at VLBTC. It is supplementary information and should be read in conjunction the VLBTC Prospectus. Please read it carefully and ask questions on anything you do not understand.
EnrolmentBefore you decide to enrol in a course, find out from us what the course entry requirements are, when it runs and how much it costs, and what you will learn on the course. This information is provided in the prospectus and term time table. Enrolment involves you filling out an Application Form. If there are other qualifications or experience relevant to the course, you may apply for RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning). In order to do this please fill out an RPL application form (see “Recognition of Prior Learning” below). Recognition of Prior LearningWe recognise that you may have completed other courses, or have experience which covers some of the material in the course you want to do. It may be that you have learned all of the material in a course and you are requesting that we recognise that with an AQF qualification. Please obtain from our staff an RPL (‘Recognition of Prior Learning’) application form and detail your previous training and experience. A fee of $25.00 per subject is payable for up to four subjects. For more than four subjects, fee on application. Credit TransfersTransfer students from other accredited institutions may enter VLBTC with advance standing provided they present a transcript and have an equal grade in subjects parallel in content and emphasis, number of hours spent in class contact and academic level of previous study and credit value to the subjects in the VLBTC Curriculum. Credit transfer for students from non-accredited institutions will be subject to sound validation and may occasionally be limited to partial credit. Mutual RecognitionWe will automatically recognise any AQF qualification granted by another Australian Registered Training Organisation issued under the same national code. AssessmentsThrough student/faculty interviews involving assessment progress reports and by the issuance of a Statement of Achievement following each term of study, you will be given feedback on whether or not you passed the course and if not, why. The Trainer will also advise you of other opportunities which may be of value to you. If you do not agree with your assessment, you may make a complaint to our management. If you are still not satisfied then you have the right to an independent expert to decide. Flexible LearningStudents who may wish to adjust their learning conditions or assessment approaches should discuss this with the Deputy Principal or Dean of Students for further advice or support. Language, Literacy and NumeracyStudents with special needs should discuss their need with the interviewing staff member. Provision is made by teachers to assist each student with any difficulty they may have in this area. ImprovementsIf you think of any way in which we can improve our service, please let us know. Our staff is eager to hear about anything we can do better. RefundsAny full time student withdrawing from a course must inform VLBTC Administration in writing. An application for a refund of excess tuition paid must also be made in writing and submitted to VLBTC Administration. The refund will be made on a pro rata basis from the date of the withdrawal letter. Any refund will result in the loss of any discounts received. There will be no refund of fees to part time students. Access and equityWe are committed to providing training to anyone who can benefit from it. All of our staff is committed to the principles of access and equity – you may ask to see our Access and Equity policy at any time. HarassmentIf you feel that any other student or any staff member has harassed you or bothered you in any way, please ask to see our Deputy Principal or Dean of Students immediately. Disciplinary proceduresAny student, who is found to be deceptive, harassing other students or staff, or breaking the law in any other way, will face disciplinary action. This may involve asking the student to leave the course immediately, and in some cases may involve a report to the Police. Privacy and AccessStudent records and confidential information retained by VLBTC shall be safeguarded by all staff and faculty at all times. Student Records and confidential information shall not be disclosed to a third party without written consent from the student. You have the right under the Privacy Act to see and ask to have amended any of your records. Students have the right to view copies of their records, and to ask VLBTC to correct any information on those records which is in error. Welfare Guidance ServicesThe Deputy Principal, Dean of Students and Dean of Studies will monitor each student’s progress and will meet with students on an individual basis to discuss their performance. These meetings are intended to assist students to identify and plan to overcome any difficulties they may be experiencing in their course work, to recognise strengths and to help students assume responsibility for their own progress and spiritual growth. Vocational OutcomesCompletion of this course does not give automatic entry into full-time ministry. It will, however assist in preparing you for ministry and the fulfilment of God’s call on your life. InterviewAn interview with each student will be arranged by telephone. - The interview personally introduces the student to some of the VLBTC staff. The student’s needs, concerns and questions are individually addressed at the time of the scheduled interview.
- The student’s qualifications and their spiritual, emotional and academic suitability will be assessed. VLBTC requires each student to agree to and sign a ‘student undertaking’ which commits them to completing the subject they are applying for and keeping themselves financially up-to-date. After their interview, students will be notified in writing whether or not the application has been successful.
